Our Founder and CEO, Michelle van Hees worked in the domestic world for 20 years.  She began her career working on private yachts as a classically trained chef.  Having satisfied her wanderlust by educating herself on world cuisines, she accepted the position of Executive Chef to entertainer Bob Hope.  Over the next seven years, she watched and learned what is necessary in operating a formally run estate.  Presidents, dignitaries and celebrity icons paid visits to the Hopes and maintaining the utmost in stellar, discreet service was at the heart of the job.  She then entered the ensuing stage of her career, working for one of Portland, Oregon's premier couples;  Arlene & Harold Schnitzer.  It was here that Michelle brought her formidable experience to bear while employed as the House Manager and Chef for this family. Over the years, she added Personal Assistant and Companion to Mrs. Schnitzer as part of her duties.  During this period, Michelle traveled to Japan and Europe to accompany Mrs. Schnitzer at galas, events and art openings.  Constantly paying attention to Mrs. Schnitzer and her contemporaries, Michelle gained an additional wealth of knowledge that increased her already wide base regarding how to manage a household with the utmost care and efficiency, always striving for excellence.

 

Michelle wanted to share her knowledge, expertise, and desire to help others achieve the perfect combination between employer and staff.  Hence, she opened an agency which understands both sides of this delicate balance.  Michelle appreciates the employer's perspective, drawing from her vast experience of how a household works.  She also relates to the candidate and the need to have an open discussion on what their goals are for their future.  At The Brahmin Group, we treat each applicant on an individual basis and pay the closest attention to detail for our clients.
